-잖아요 (Reminding of Shared Knowledge)
'-janayo' reminds the listener of a fact they already know, much like adding 'you know how…' or 'right?' for confirmation.
Recalling Shared Facts

Gentle Pushback or Correction
When someone has forgotten or gotten something wrong, '-janayo' lets you set them straight gently.
거기 지금 문 닫았어요. 일요일은 쉬잖아요.

It's closed right now. They're off on Sundays, remember?
Mind the Tone
'-janayo' can come across as a jab ('how do you not know that?'), so watch your tone.
걱정 마세요. 당신은 늘 잘하잖아요.
geokjeong maseyo. dangsineun neul jalhajanayo.
Don't worry. You always pull it off, you know.
Pressing a Point
When backing up your own argument, citing a fact no one could deny with '-janayo' gives it persuasive weight.
무리하지 마세요. 어제도 늦게까지 일했잖아요.
murihaji maseyo. eojedo neutgekkaji ilhaetjanayo.
Don't push yourself. You were working late yesterday too, remember.
당연히 합격하죠. 그렇게 열심히 준비했잖아요.
dangyeonhi hapgyeokajyo. geureoke yeolsimhi junbihaetjanayo.
Of course you'll pass. You prepared so hard, after all.
Soft Self-Reminder
Used as if reminding yourself rather than the listener, the tone softens considerably.
괜찮아요. 실수는 누구나 하잖아요.
gwaenchanayo. silsuneun nuguna hajanayo.
It's okay. Everybody makes mistakes, after all.
