Four Seasons & Activities
Korea has four seasons (사계절, sagyejeol): spring (봄, bom), summer (여름, yeoreum), autumn (가을, gaeul), and winter (겨울, gyeoul). Each one brings its own kind of weather.
Season Names
| Season | Romanization | English |
|---|---|---|
| 봄 | bom | spring |
| 여름 | yeoreum | summer |
| 가을 | gaeul | autumn/fall |
| 겨울 | gyeoul | winter |
Spring is warm (따뜻해요, ttatteuthaeyo), summer is hot (더워요, deowoyo), autumn is cool (시원해요, siwonhaeyo), and winter is cold (추워요, chuwoyo).
Seasonal Activities
In summer you go swimming (수영, suyeong). In winter you go skiing (스키, seuki). In autumn you go see the autumn leaves (단풍, danpung).
| Activity | Romanization | English |
|---|---|---|
| 수영하다 | suyeonghada | to swim |
| 스키를 타다 | seukireul tada | to ski |
| 꽃구경을 하다 | kkotgugyeongeul hada | to view flowers |
| 단풍을 보다 | danpungeul boda | to see autumn leaves |
Saying Your Favorite Season
'무슨 계절을 좋아해요?' (museun gyejeoreul joahaeyo?) means 'Which season do you like?' You answer with something like '저는 가을을 좋아해요' (jeoneun gaeureul joahaeyo, 'I like autumn').
Season with Weather
Mentioning the season and the weather together sounds more natural: '여름에는 덥고 비가 와요' (yeoreumeneun deopgo biga wayo, 'In summer it is hot and rains'). The ending '-고' (-go) means 'and.'
💡 Tip: Tip: Add '-에' (-e) to a season to say 'in (that season).' For example, 봄에 = 'in spring.'
