Asking for and Giving Directions

In this lesson, you'll learn how to ask for and give directions while picking up words for location and position.

Direction Words

๋˜‘๋ฐ”๋กœttokbarostraight ahead

To ask the way, you'll often use '์–ด๋–ป๊ฒŒ ๊ฐ€์š”? (eotteoke gayo?)', meaning 'How do I get there?'.

์ง€ํ•˜์ฒ ์—ญ์ด ์–ด๋””์— ์žˆ์–ด์š”?

Where is the subway station?
์€ํ–‰์— ์–ด๋–ป๊ฒŒ ๊ฐ€์š”?

Distance and Time

Ask about distance with '๋ฉ€์–ด์š”? (Is it far?)' or '๊ฐ€๊นŒ์›Œ์š”? (Is it close?)', and ask how long it takes with '์–ผ๋งˆ๋‚˜ ๊ฑธ๋ ค์š”? (How long does it take?)'.

Asking Politely

When asking a stranger for directions, it's best to open with '์‹ค๋ก€ํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค (Excuse me)'; phrasing your question as '~์–ด๋””์— ์žˆ์–ด์š”?' makes it sound gentler.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: If you're unsure, you can politely say '์ž˜ ๋ชจ๋ฅด๊ฒ ์–ด์š” (jal moreugesseoyo)' to mean 'I'm not sure'.
